WHAT IS THE TRUE MASS OF THE EARTH?

WHAT IS THE TRUE MASS OF THE EARTH?

If you find a bowl with some water and mud in it, you will throw away the mud and water and wash it clean , before weighing it .

The earth is a large bowl of rock. It contains water of the oceans, large quantities of silicate (Rock),common salt, carbon compounds(Bio-waste),fish, animals , trees etc, minerals like coal and gold , diamonds etc. Should we deduct the weight of all these things , to calculate the true mass of the earth?

PEEPAL TREE BLOOMS IN SUMMER

PEEPAL TREE BLOOMS IN SUMMER

In summer , when growth of other plants slackens , for want of water , the peepal tree produces maximum leaves , merrily dancing in the wind!

Have you ever thought why? I can only guess.

This tree can absorb water molecules , even from the rock. You must have noticed saplings sprouting on rocks. Its roots produce an enzyme which dissolves the rock. Roots absorb water in molecular form. If there is much water , the roots may wilt.

What is your opinion?

POST OFFICE IS A WONDERFUL SYSTEM

POST OFFICE IS A WONDERFUL SYSTEM

Almost all other departments of the government are becoming dysfunctional, but the postal system is very efficient and corruption free.

When we receive money order , the postman was in the habit of giving the money in notes ; he would give just one rupee in short coins; out of this, something would be given to him as ‘bakshis’ or tip , not bribe! He knows each and every household in the village. In the desert, he used to bring not only letters , but even grocery items on his camel. I saw it in the film DO BOOND PANI

(TWO DROPS OF WATER) , A FILM WORTH SEEING!

Two hundred years ago, when communication was almost impossible , drop post card , costing five paise (now it is fifty paise) in the Post Box ; it will travel all the way to Guvahathy and delivered to the addressee! The mail will be carried by trains and authorized buses . In all express trains, there is a van for carrying postal dak , known as RMS (Railway Mail service ), where postal clerks will be continuously sorting letters which are handed over to the RMS staff in each major station. We can also drop letters in RMS van.

Post office does banking operations too . In earlier days , there were no banks in the villages. You can open savings account in the PO or buy fixed deposit receipts. Kisan Vikas Pathr can be bought for a minimum specified amount . Now 1000 rupees will double in 100 months. Remember that in Banks , interest rates are falling. There is Public Provident fund also in the Pos. The money deposited is tax free.

MOBILE PHONE

MOBILE PHONE

I remember the days , when young people went from house to house , selling a new thing called the ‘mobile phone’. We were familiar with the land phone . Why this new gadget?

“Sir , this you can put in your pocket . If something happens , you can inform the family immediately.”

I thought it cumbersome . Now, autorickshaw drivers ad even workers who pluck coconuts from the tree have it, including my maid servant .

Girls get into the bus and start talking on the mobile , even before they are seated. Lovers go on talking up to the time they bid :”Good night, sweet kisses”. What a world!

I rare cases , it can be fatal. Recently at home, near Eravakad , a fellow was so immersed in a chat . while crossing a bridge , that he did not see the train coming. He was hit and fell down into the water. When the body was taken out of water , it was the mobile that helped the Police , to find out his identity.

I do not have it because I don’t know how to use it!

WE ARE ALWAYS WAITING FOR SOMETHING

WE ARE ALWAYS WAITING FOR SOMETHING

If our train is late , we cannot leave the station. So there is the waiting room. Same is the case at bus stops too.

At the ration shop or the post office , we stand in the line , waiting for our turn

AIn Bombay , there will be a very long line for each bus.; there will be a number of such lines . Aome people carry books which they read , to while away the time. Once you are inside the train or bus , you wait for the destination. Once our train was disabled because the driver found that the oil was mixed with water. We all waited till another engine arrived.

One can go on narrating such experiences.

There is another type of waiting. An expectant mother has to wait for nine long months . The worst type is for waiting for a job. Children wait for examination results , candidates wait for interview call .

Poor patients suffering from terminal diseases and culprits sentenced for hanging wait for death,

All life is a waiting game

HEALTH-BEWARE OF BACTERIA IN RAINY SEASON

HEALTH-BEWARE OF BACTERIA IN RAINY SEASON
During this season , bacteria multiply quickly and spread in the soil , water and air. All sorts of diseases trouble us , making this the worst in the year , except for Doctors (!)
In Keralam ,we boil the water with a piece of dry ginger, Chucku in Malayalam, which kill germs and make the water safe. This is called ‘chuckuvellam’ (literally ginger water) . I have found from experience that, if you add a small quantity of ‘yavam’, it will help in clearing the throat of mucous mucus . This medicinal property of ‘yavam’ was advised by my uncle , who was admitted in Jubilee Mission Hospital , Trichur . Doctors were drawing mucous accumulation in the chest by syringe. They were surprised when they found great improvement. They did not know that he was drinking only yavam water.
YAVAM (Malayalam) grows among wheat and is known as Jo in Hindi .

SCARE AWAY STRAY DOGS

SCARE AWAY STRAY DOGS
Stray dog menace is really a problem in the villages. Some five dogs are always seen here in Chathakudam East End. Two of them have chosen our terrace as their home.
Many people keep coloured water in transparent bottles in the entrance to their homes . The sight of the coloured water is said to scare these animals.
