History is replete with instances of childlessness.

King Dashrath of Ayodhya conducted puthrakameshty yagam (Yajn) to invoke divine power to produce children.

Heroine of freedom struggle of 1857, Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi, was a close friend of the British. But she failed to have a son and the British refused permission to adopt one. She was so much annoyed that she herself fought against the British forces, in the ensuing war.

This trend has gained momentum in recent times. I know several couple who would pay any price to have babies, male or female.

Has the modern life style contributed to what is called anapathyata (infertility)?

I BELIEVE THAT WE SHOULD NOT ASK FOR ANYTHING. Our Father in heaven knows what is best for us.

There are allegations that former Chief Minister of Bihar, Lalu Yadav amassed disproportionate wealth when he was Chief Minister. There is a case registered against him and CBI is investigating it. On some technical ground, the Supreme Court stayed the investigation and the CBI did not challenge it.

Now Nitish Kumar, the present Chief Minister, is questioning why the Central Government is not giving permission to the CBI, to go to the court. The answer is obvious. Lalu is an ally of the government at the centre. How can it antagonize him?

The case against Quatriochi was simply dropped, after the CBI officers spent much more money than the amount involved in the purchase of Boforse guns.

All talk of corruption free government is insincere. Government at all levels is steeped in corruption. Politicians need money for fighting elections, which is becoming extremely costly. The government servants like riches because they are human beings.Even judges are becoming wealthy or allowing their sons to gain wealth.

Some time back, I remember a report that three eminent figures from different walks of life, have formed an apex body to oversee the fight against corruption. Now it is all forgotten.

Why not legalise corruption?

I hate people being worshiped as icons.

I do not think they adore politicians, as they do in India.

When war broke out between England and Germany in 1939, the weak Chamberlain was replaced by the strongman Churchill; but after the war, the latter had to quit. A new man, who did not want to continue the old imperialist policy, became the Prime Minister of England.

No statue of the war hero, Churchill was erected. This shows the maturity of the people who believe in democracy.

Here in our country, Nehru, Indira Gandhi and now Mayawati are iconized and worshiped as if they are Gods and Goddesses. This shows that our society is still feudal. We do not deserve democracy; we want Kings and Queens to rule us.

When they wanted to film the love story of Nehru and Lady Mountbatten, permission was refused on the ground that Nehru is an icon and he cannot be shown in his true colour !
