BLOCKADE OF NEPAL

BLOCKADE OF NEPAL

The anti-India agitation has made life miserable in Nepal . The youth have blocked the road to India. Even salt has to come to this country. As fuel is not coming , Chinese airlines have stopped flights .

Why this hysteria against India? Cable operators have stopped showing Indian films.

Is there anything wrong with us? Is it merely hatred of the BIG BROTHER?

HOW TO SPEND TIME

HOW TO SPEND TIME?

I do not know how to utilize spare time, especially after coming to Delhi. At home , I go about selling books .

Morning walk is for health ; as I have become very slow, it takes only one hour . At the end of it , I buy one tender coconut for my wife and come home.

Watching TV is boring . The same films are shown again and again. Even news from Keralam is the same . Panchayath elections and dog attacks are repeated every day. Yesterday , the English channel was interesting , as the discussion was about the new constitution of Nepal. Though our neighbor , we know very little about that Himalahan Kingdom; sorry , it is no more a kingdom ,it I a republic!

Till now we used to believe that it is the only Hindu state in the world. Now it is secular.

I was surprised to learn that there are about hundred languages and an equal number of castes in that tiny State!

RAPISTS GO AWAY-CAN THEY CLAIM DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY?

RAPISTS GO AWAY-CAN THEY CLAIM DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY?

Nepali ladies working in their Embassy , were subjected to continued sexual assault for a number of days . The other workers of the office were also allowed to do this . They were not given food sometimes. There were marks of injury on their body.

Our police received the complaint , but , before the investigation was completed , they were taken to Nepal ,and thence , to Saudi Arabia.

Government of India failed to prevent their escape.

If it was murder , then also we can do nothing? Could we not declare them  ‘persona non-grata’ and arrest the culprits? What we will do now?

The law makers should frame rules to enable our Police to do the needful.

This is a national shame !

HISTORY-INDIA UNDEFENDED

HISTORY-INDIA UNDEFENDED

A foreigner who studies our history, will be surprised to observe that this country never tried to defend itself.

The Himalayas guard our northern border like a formidable fort; the seas protect the peninsular half . If it was England , we would never have been enslaved. Our failure is that we never felt we are one.

There were a number of small kingdoms , always at war with the neighbours.

When the French attacked Pondicherrry , others did not come to the help. Were they happy that it served them well?

Baber was approached by disgruntled Rajputs , to invade India. He was reluctant but was persuaded to come to India. The fact is that it was the British East India Company that united various Principalities into a single Nation. In this sense , they are the father of the nation, not Mahatma Gandhi! When they departed from the scene , India was again divided into three different entities. Now we are busy fighting against Pakistan. Is it a curse?

The real enemy is Nepal. The boundary between the two nations is a vast , thick forest , with hills and valleys which can never be guarded. It is a paradise for smugglers , Maoists and carriers of narcotics. The Central Government knows this but is helpless. Like the invasion of Sikim by Morarji Desai, can Narendra Modi cobble Nepal? The people will be happy . Even for salt , they look to India. Even as I write this , dozens of Nepalis have died there , demonstrating against their government.

Before the revolution , the Kings of Nepal used to be blood relations of Indian Kings and ironically , it is the only Hindu Kingdom in the world. So the closeness is as near as that of Kashmir. More over , there are no Muslims here.

NEPAL HAS SETTLED DOWN

Prachanda has shown remarkable maturity, in leading a terrorist organization, fighting a guerrilla war against Monarchy, for the past several years.
Nepal being a Himalayan state, strategically placed between China and India, the latter looks with suspicion, at what is going on there.
The US too has placed CIA agents permanently there.
There are parties favoring India, trying to sabotage any agreement among a number of these political outfits.
Now the daunting problems of unemployment and economic reconstruction have to be solved.
I wish all success to Prachanda!

TOURISM IN KERALAM

Keralam is the Kashmir of the south. In addition to natural beauty, there are a number of magnificent, old temples like Sabarimala and Guruvayoor, attracting millions of devotees.

There is good scope for exploiting the natural beauty of our country side by a new approach to tourism.

In Nepal, many tourists stay with individual families as paying guests. This trend is not in vogue here, though there are palatial buildings, lying vacant in almost all villages. The owners are working in gulf countries and the houses are built, as there is no other way of investing their savings.

A tourist will prefer to stay in these quiet houses, away from the congested, dirty towns. With all places well connected by roads, this is an ideal proposition.

All houses which the owners are willing to let out to tourists, may be notified through suitable web site. Families, willing to accommodate tourists, both Indian and foreign, may also utilize this facility. Now, a number of middle class families are availing LTC facility provided by Government and Public Sector Undertakings. For those people, cheap stay in families will be very attractive.

I am staying in Keralam. We intend to visit 108 Shiva and 108 Devi temples considered sacred. We shall definitely prefer staying with families near the temple.

LOW COST FLYING

Every day, the congestion on the roads is increasing. Express high ways cause controversies, especially in Keralam.

Low cost flights may be the answer, at least for passenger traffic.

In the nineteen fifties, people used to travel from Kathmandu valley to Pokhran valley in Nepal, in aeroplanes without air hostess, seat belts or food. Even ordinary workers and peasants used the aircraft, because it was the only way to travel in the country criss crossed with mountain ranges. They used to travel along with pick axes, spades and baskets.

A single pilot used to manage things. There were o accidents.

Such mode of conveyance may be tried from the Kerala towns, from Kasargod to Kanyakumari in Tamilnadu.

If low altitude flights are undertaken over the sea, the accidents caused by mountains can be avoided.

The cargo portion also may be used for passengers, thus avoiding delays and accommodating double the number of passengers, who may be seated on benches. Air conditioning may not be necessary.
