TODAY IS THE FIRST OF SEPTEMBER

TODAY IS THE FIRST OF SEPTEMBER

The first of the month is pay day. ( now we get salary on 31st). We used to be happy . My salary was 120 rupees. Cost of living was low. An average family could live on this amount and save money. Shortly afterwards , the pay scales were revised and this went on every ten years . Now all are looking forward to the next revision in 2016 . Now my pension is above 30,000 . Almost the whole money is spent by the end of the month. This is inflation.

Government servants get Dearness Allowance , which is revised every six months. At the end of the year , we get Bonus.

What about common people living on agriculture or unorganized labour like construction workers? They are squeezed by inflation . Most of them are in debt . Money lenders are becoming richer and richer. They extract interest @ fifty % per month , not per year. The Government ignores the woes of common people.

ADIVASIS ARE DENIED EDUCATION

ADIVASIS ARE DENIED EDUCATION
In the hill districts of Iduki and Vynad, there are one teacher schools. Both the teacher and the students have to walk miles, through forests, climbing hills . The teacher gets a salary of about three thousand.
As it is not economical, Government is about to abolish such schools. This will be a big blow to adivasis, who do not have dwellings, water supplies or ration cards.
Does not the Government have a responsibility towards these tribal people? Are they to be recruited to the army of Naxalites?

ONE MORE HARTAL-TRANSPORTERS

ONE MORE HARTAL-TRANSPORTERS

This time the hartal or stop work covers the whole of India. It was notified much in advance . The Government of India could have seized the issue and taken necessary action.

One can imagine the condition , when the roads all over the country becomes empty. Examinations have to be postponed. People will not be able to go t the hospitals. Why not ban hartals?

GURUNANAK EYE CENTRE IN DELHI

It is a government hospital. If you see the crowd there, because it is free, you may feel that the whole population here is having problems of the eye.
The cleanliness, dedication of the doctors and staff etc. are a welcome change. There is a large garden here for relaxing in the evening. Canteen is inadequate, probably because most people, belonging to the poorer sections, bring their own food.
A hospital is the last thing to visit, but this one is different. People suffering from other diseases are absent. In the pay ward, you feel quite at home!

MONEY SPENT ON DISASTER MANAGEMENT IS A WASTE text/javascript’ src=

Three major disasters have affected the subcontinent of India – floods in Leh and Pakistan, and, several train accidents, resulting in loss of life, and recebtly, oil spill near Bombay.
A large sum of money is spent on training staff in disaster management, but those people are not of any use, when calamity strikes. It is the local people who give help.
I feel that, like all other departments in Government, like army, sports and cultural activities, Police, etc, we can save money by abandoning it.
The functions are better managed by citizens, including retired people.who can be contacted on mobile phone.
This is what actually happens.

FREE PRICING OF DIESEL AND PETROL text/javascript’ src=

When I paid Rs. 390 for a cooking gas cylinder, my heat burned! ONE WILL LAST ONLY FOR TWENTY DAYS.

The recent increase in price of petrol, diesel etc. has already increased the cost of transportation by trucks, which in turn, has pushed up the price of all commodities. People of the level of lower middle class and below, are finding it difficult to make both ends meet. So I can understand the hartal called by all parties, to be observed on Monday. But it will have no effect on the Government led by Manmohan Singh. Any dislocation of normalcy cannot be justified on rational grounds

The Prime Minister has already surrendered to the dictates of Ambani and co. He knows that he is the last Emperor of the .Dynasty ruling at the Centre. The next election will throw up a hung Parliament The majority of MPs will be independents, ready to join any group that pays them handsome bribe.

What is to be done by the people? Elections are always there. By elections, Panchayat elections, State Assembly elections etc.  Not a single person must vote for Parties ruling at the Centre!

NOW GOVERNMENT HAS WOKEN UP TO THE GRAVITY OF BHOPAL TRAGEDY

The group of ministers (GoM), in the Government, examining the issues connected with the Bhopal gas leak, have proposed spending Rs. 1500 crores for giving compensation to the victims, cleaning the toxic surroundings etc. After twenty six years, they have woken up. It is impossible to believe this lethargy and callousness of an elected government.

International help should be sought to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
